Service on the Board of Trustees
The Foundation relies on the guidance and leadership of an engaged Board of Trustees to shape the vision for the Foundation’s work. Trustees have many duties, including fiduciary oversight for MeHAF’s work.
Typically, candidates for Board service are identified after a comprehensive search and solicitation process that draws candidates from all over the state. Candidates for Board service must complete an application form that asks candidates to describe their commitment and activities that support MeHAF’s mission.
When Board members complete their service term, new Trustees are generally elected at MeHAF’s April Annual Meeting. The Foundation is always interested in identifying potential Board members who demonstrate a clear interest and concern for the Foundation and its mission. Candidates should bring a broad perspective and understanding of the interaction of health care and society in general. Board members must also possess sensitivity to the act and need for giving through philanthropy.
Individuals interested in applying for Board service should review the information about the board as well as the trustee position description and complete the candidate nomination form (
below).
Board Conflict of Interest Policy
The MeHAF Trustees are selected for service on the basis of their widely recognized professional expertise and experience, and deep personal commitment to promoting access and improving health in Maine. Effective operation of the Foundation depends on open and unbiased input that guides the decisions of the Trustees. Members of the Community Advisory Committee, individuals appointed to serve on the Foundation’s Committees, and Foundation staff work collaboratively with the Trustees to promote the Foundation’s mission.
Given Maine’s health and human services environment and the fact that many organizations in the state rely on the knowledge and experience of a relatively small group of highly qualified individuals in the health care field, it is inevitable that Trustees will have current or prior affiliations with organizations seeking support from the Foundation. MeHAF adopted a comprehensive Conflict of Interest Policy to manage conflicts or appearance of conflicts.
Board/CAC Service Application Form
Individuals who are interested in working with the Foundation are encouraged to nominate themselves or any other Maine resident for service on the CAC or Board. If you are submitting a nomination on behalf of another person, please confirm the nominee has consented to be a candidate. On the application form, (
in Word) please indicate whether this nomination is for the Board of Trustees, the Community Advisory Committee, or either group. If you select consideration for both the Board and CAC, the nomination form will be reviewed with the understanding that the candidate would be selected to serve on one or the other and would not be allowed to indicate a preference, once selected.
