Grant/Funding Cycle Evaluation

MeHAF evaluates its grants by looking at individual grants as well as clusters of grants. The Foundation does not make individual grant reports available publicly because these documents often contain confidential information. Evaluation information, such as an aggregate report of grant cycle, is posted on the web and publicly available.

 Evaluation of MeHAF's Grants

In 2002, MeHAF funded its first major grants, awarding $3.7 million to 36 organizations for 38 projects. In the fall of 2004, hired external evaluators to assess individual and aggregate project outcomes, as well as MeHAF’s grantmaking and reporting process. MeHAF also conducted an evaluation of its 2003 major grants and the first few years of its small grants program, known as Discretionary Grants.

MeHAF Performance Evaluation

MeHAF evaluates its institutional performance in several ways, particularly by considering its grantmaking processes. Full reports or summaries of findings are posted here as they become available.

MeHAF Participates in National Evaluation of Foundations

In 2004, MeHAF was one of 29 foundations that participated in a national survey conducted by the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP). Grantees, and in many cases declined applicants, were surveyed to assess their satisfaction with the foundations with which they interacted. MeHAF's performance was compared to the field as a whole, and to comparable health care foundations.
