Health care access, quality and rising costs impact every individual, family and business in Maine. For sound policy and system reform to occur, leaders from across the spectrum must be better informed to understand the need for policy change. MeHAF is committed to ensuring that leaders from all sectors have the fundamental knowledge and skills required to meet the challenge of reforming and improving Maine's health care system.
Policy Leaders Academy
Working with the Maine Development Foundation, MeHAF sponsors a biennial Policy Leaders Academy Forum on Health Care for members of Maine's legislature.
Hanley Leadership Development Program
The Dan Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Institute for Civic Leadership offers a leadership training course for health care leaders from private, nonprofit and government organizations. MeHAF provides scholarship underwriting so leaders from smaller nonprofits representing or serving Maine's uninsured and underserved can participate in this program.
Health Coverage Fellowship Program
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation sponsors a unique nine-day fellowship program for journalists that taps the expertise of top health and policy officials, and provides first-hand experience on how the system works. MeHAF provides scholarship underwriting for a Maine journalist to attend. Fellows include:

National Academy for State Health Policy Annual Conference Sponsorship
Since 2006, Maine's Legislative Council has offered a bipartisan group of legislators and legislative analyst staff the opportunity to attend this annual meeting. Legislators learn about key state and national policy developments from national leaders and their legislative peers from other states. MeHAF provides the National Academy for State Health Policy with the underwriting support for travel and registration.
