Board of Trustees

The Maine Health Access Foundation is governed by a 15 member statewide Board of Trustees. The Board is comprised of distinguished individuals selected for service based on their recognized professional expertise, experience and deep personal commitment to promoting access to health care in Maine.

Charge

The Trustees are charged in the by-laws with guiding the Foundation toward “improving access to health care and improving the quality of health care to medically uninsured and medically underserved persons within the State of Maine, and to serve other unmet health care needs within the State of Maine, particularly with regard to the medically uninsured and underserved populations of the State.”

Service on the Board of Trustees

The Foundation relies on the guidance and leadership of an engaged Board of Trustees to shape the vision for the Foundation’s work. Trustees have many duties, including fiduciary oversight for MeHAF’s work.

Typically, candidates for Board service are identified after a comprehensive search and solicitation process that draws candidates from all over the state. Candidates for Board service must complete an application form ( below) that asks candidates to describe their commitment and activities that support MeHAF’s mission.

When Board members complete their service term, new Trustees are generally elected at MeHAF’s April Annual Meeting. The Foundation is always interested in identifying potential Board members who demonstrate a clear interest and concern for the Foundation and its mission. Candidates should bring a broad perspective and understanding of the interaction of health care and society in general. Board members must also possess sensitivity to the act and need for giving through philanthropy.

Individuals interested in applying for Board service should review the information about the board as well as the trustee position description and complete the candidate nomination form.

Appointment of the Founding Board

The 15 founding Board members were appointed by Maine’s Attorney General, Andrew Ketterer, following an intensive statewide search for outstanding Trustees. The slate of nominations for the founding Board were proposed by MeHAF’s Community Advisory Committee and the general public. The first Board meeting was convened by the Attorney General in January 2001.

Board Meeting Minutes

Minutes of all Board of Trustee meetings are posted on this site once they have been approved by the Board.
