The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) announced the release of a newly completed analysis by Manatt Health of the State budget impact of Medicaid expansion in Maine. The analysis shows potential budget savings and revenue of $25.6 million resulting in a potential annual net State cost of expansion at $61.7 million by 2021. The analysis, funded by the Maine Health Access Foundation, builds on a 2015 report of the State budget impact of expansion.
“When MeHAF released the 2015 Manatt report we did not yet know the experience of states that had already expanded Medicaid,” said MeHAF CEO, Barbara Leonard. “Manatt now has access to new data to help inform Maine’s implementation of Medicaid expansion. Their updated analysis incorporates this new data from other states and also builds on what was learned from Maine’s prior experience with expansion.”
The new analysis will help inform the work of Maine’s policymakers as they implement the voter-approved Medicaid expansion.
