The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) has named George A. Hill, President & CEO of Maine Family Planning, as its 2018 Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award recipient. Hill received the prestigious award at MeHAF’s Board of Trustees meeting on October 11 and the award includes $10,000 for Maine Family Planning, an organization that Hill has led since 1991.
George Hill has relentlessly pursued access to primary care and reproductive health services for his entire career. Under his leadership, Maine Family Planning ensures that each year, more than 21,000 Maine women and teens have access to affordable, high quality family planning services through a network of 47 clinic sites located in every county. Hill has been a valiant advocate to ensure access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion services when needed. As noted by his nominator, “George Hill’s integrity and outstanding leadership are recognized widely, here in Maine and nationally. His values are aligned with his actions, which make him an effective and tireless advocate for access to comprehensive reproductive care.” Barbara Leonard, President & CEO of MeHAF said, “George’s attention to critical emerging health issues has kept Maine Family Planning at the cutting edge of bringing high-quality reproductive care to the entire state. The recent work to ensure access to critical care and counseling for women with opioid dependence is a great example of his forward-thinking leadership.”
The Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award will be made annually until 2026 to honor the legacy of MeHAF’s founding CEO, Wendy Wolf, who stepped down in October 2016. The award honors her 15-year tenure by recognizing the exceptional leadership and achievements of nonprofit leaders working to promote access to quality health care and improve the health of Maine people, particularly the uninsured and underserved. The award includes a $10,000 gift to the nonprofit organization that employs the recognized leader. Awardees are selected through a nomination process and decisions are made by a committee made up of MeHAF Trustees and Community Advisory Committee members.
