The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) is the state’s largest, private, nonprofit health care foundation with a mission to promote access to quality health care, especially for those who are uninsured and underserved, and improve the health of everyone in Maine. Annually, MeHAF provides about $4 million in grant and program support to achieve its mission by working with nonprofit partners and key leaders in the public and private sectors to advance initiatives and policies that particularly help those who face barriers accessing health care services and achieving optimal health.
The foundation was legally incorporated in April, 2000 following the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine to Anthem. MeHAF is an independent, nonpartisan health foundation, and has no affiliation with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine.
MeHAF envisions a Maine where all people and communities are healthy and well. The 2017 Annual Report describes the activities the foundation undertook to infuse equity across all of MeHAF’s work to help make this vision a reality. The report also includes stories about grants that were made in 2017 that reflect the foundation’s commitment to health equity.
